By accessing, downloading, or using Notioc's Canvas MCP Server, documentation, or related services ("Services"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and all applicable laws and regulations. Notioc provides open-source software tools designed to enhance educational workflows through AI integration. Our primary offering is the Canvas MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server, which enables AI assistants to access Canvas LMS data locally on your machine.

Important Notice

Our Services are self-hosted solutions. You are responsible for installation, configuration, security, and compliance with your institution's policies when using our software.

3. Canvas Integration and Academic Data

Your Responsibilities

  • Institutional Compliance: You must comply with your educational institution's Canvas usage policies, IT policies, and academic integrity guidelines
  • API Usage: You are responsible for proper use of Canvas API tokens and respecting rate limits
  • Academic Integrity: You must use AI assistance in accordance with your institution's academic integrity policies
  • Data Security: You are responsible for securing your API credentials and local machine

Prohibited Uses

  • Using the service to violate academic integrity policies or commit academic dishonesty
  • Accessing Canvas data you are not authorized to view
  • Sharing Canvas API tokens or compromising institutional security
  • Using the service for commercial purposes without proper authorization

4. Open Source License and Modifications

The Notioc Canvas MCP Server is released under the MIT License. You may:

  • Use, copy, modify, and distribute the software
  • Use the software for personal or commercial purposes
  • Include the software in proprietary applications

However, modifications or distributions must include the original license and copyright notice. We are not responsible for modified versions of our software.

5. Third-Party Services and AI Integration

Our software may integrate with third-party services including:

  • Canvas LMS APIs
  • AI services (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.)
  • Document parsing services (LlamaParse, etc.)

You are responsible for complying with the terms of service of any third-party services you choose to integrate. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, their availability, or their handling of your data.

6. Disclaimer and Limitations

  • Our Services are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind
  • We do not guarantee compatibility with all Canvas instances or configurations
  • AI-generated content may be inaccurate and should be verified independently
  • Software may contain bugs or security vulnerabilities

You acknowledge that the use of AI tools for academic work carries inherent risks and responsibilities. Always verify AI-generated content and ensure compliance with your institution's AI usage policies.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NOTIOC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Academic consequences from AI usage or academic integrity violations
  • Data loss, corruption, or unauthorized access
  • Institutional disciplinary actions
  • Loss of Canvas access or other educational services
  • Damages arising from third-party service failures

8. User Age and Capacity

Our Services are intended for users who are at least 18 years old or have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction. If you are a minor, you must have permission from a parent or guardian and their agreement to these terms before using our Services.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Notioc from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

  • Your use of our Services in violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of institutional policies or academic integrity rules
  • Your unauthorized access to or use of Canvas data
  • Your modifications to our software

10. Termination

You may stop using our Services at any time by uninstalling our software. We may discontinue or modify our Services at any time. Upon termination, you must cease all use of our Services and delete any downloaded software.

11. Modifications to Terms

We may revise these Terms at any time by posting updated Terms on our website. Continued use of our Services after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. We recommend checking these Terms periodically for updates.

12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of our Services shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Delaware.
